What is Toastmasters?

Toastmasters is an internationally recognized organization that helps people improve their public speaking, communication, and leadership skills in a supportive and friendly environment for over 100 years. It does this through clubs located all over the world.

Our club is a part of this global network.

Where and when do you meet?

We meet every first and third Monday of the month.

We currently host hybrid meetings. We meet at Socialna akademija, Tržaška cesta 132 and online on Zoom at 6.30 pm.

Before the meeting we mingle a bit, therefore it's best if you come at 6:15 pm.

Can I visit a meeting before joining?

Absolutely. We would be happy to meet you. There is no fee for attending a meeting as a guest two to three times.

Do I have to speak as a guest?

No. You're welcome to just observe. But if you feel up for it, there is a chance to participate in the impromptu speaking section. Don't worry, everything will ve explained along the way.

Do I need to prepare for my first meeting?

Yes, sure, give a TED talk style. 😂 Just joking! No preparation is needed. Just bring yourself!

What happens during a typical meeting?

We practise a lot ob public speaking. :-)

Our meeting follows the standard format of Toastmasters meetings:

2 or 3 prepared speeches
Impromptu speeches or Table Topics as we call them
Feedback

We added two parts that are unique to our club:

Ideas to Practice: members present a good idea worth sharing, typically related to business/careers.
Members to Members: a chance for a member to pitch his / her idea, product or service.

And after the meeting, you are welcome to go for a drink with us in a nearby pub.

How long does a meeting last?

Our meeting lasts 90 minutes. We start at 18:30 and end at 20:00. Afterwards we usually go for a drink in a nearby pub.

How many people are at the meeting?

There are usually between 10 and 20 people at each meeting.

What language is used in the meeting?

English. Why? Because English has become an essential skill in today’s professional world. And since most of us aren't native speakers, we need a space to practice. Therefore we practice and develop both our public speaking and English skills at the same time. Two for the price of one. 😁

How much is the membership fee?

It's a yearly fee of 220 EUR. Please see the details on how to join.

How can I become a member?

Easy. You fill out this form, pay the membership fee and you become our member (details in How to join). Afterwards, you get a mentor who will guide you and answer every question you might have.

We suggest you visit one or two meetings as a guest first. In this way, you can get to know us a bit.

You have to be of at least 18 years old to become a member, but otherwise there are no restrictions.

What kind of people attend Toastmasters?

You’ll meet all kinds of people here, from students to retirees, coaches, communication experts, social media managers, engineers, programmers, pharmacists, lawyers, mathematicians... basically everykind. 😁

What will I gain when I join your club?

When you join our club, you gain a safe and supportive space to practise public speaking, boost your confidence, and sharpen your communication skills.

You'll develop strong presentation and leadership skills that are valuable in both personal and professional life.

You'll also learn how to give and recieve feedback.

Because we’re well connected with other Toastmasters clubs, you get a chance to speak in front of an international audience.

You’ll also meet lots of interesting people from all walks of life and make great connections.

We put lots of emphasis on building social connections between us as well. We organize all kinds of fun social activities too, like picnics, Christmas dinners, and speaking opportunities outside the club.

It’s a place where growth and fun meet. 😊
